Author Guidelines

Latin American Journal of Astronautics (LAJA) welcomes original and rigorous manuscripts in astronautics, space systems, applied technological development, and academically grounded innovation. The journal publishes work relevant to space research, aerospace engineering, and the strengthening of scientific and technological capacity, with special interest in contributions connected to Latin America and other emerging scientific environments.

LAJA currently accepts the following types of contributions:

  • Research Articles: original papers presenting previously unpublished results from theoretical, experimental, computational, applied, or interdisciplinary research.
  • Review Articles: manuscripts that critically synthesize, compare, and assess the current state of knowledge on a topic relevant to the journal’s scope.

Manuscripts may be submitted in EnglishSpanish, or Portuguese. However, the primary publication language of LAJA is English. For this reason, every manuscript must include:

  • title in English and in the manuscript language;
  • abstract in English and in the manuscript language;
  • keywords in English and in the manuscript language.

Authors are encouraged to use the official LAJA template when preparing their manuscript. The current template follows a clear academic structure, including title, authors and affiliations, corresponding author, abstract, keywords, abbreviations where necessary, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgements, appendices, and references.

The abstract must be written as a single paragraph, in the third person, with clarity and precision, and must not exceed 400 words. It should state the purpose of the study, the main results, and the major conclusions. Up to 6 keywords should be provided.

The manuscript should be clearly organized. Numbered sections and subsections are recommended where appropriate. Figurestables, and equations must be numbered consecutively and explicitly cited in the text. Figures should include a caption or title; tables should have their title above the table body; and equations referred to in the text should be identified by consecutive numbering.

LAJA uses the IEEE citation style. References must be cited in the text using numbers in square brackets and listed at the end of the manuscript in the same order of appearance. Authors must carefully verify that all references are complete, consistent, and relevant.

Submitted manuscripts must be original, must not have been previously published in the same form, and must not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal or equivalent editorial venue. Authors are responsible for properly declaring authorship, funding sources, possible conflicts of interest, and, where applicable, the relevant use of artificial intelligence tools.

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening and, if they meet the basic requirements of quality and thematic relevance, they proceed to double-blind peer review. Final editorial decisions are based on academic quality, methodological rigor, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

LAJA is an open-access journal and does not charge APCs, submission fees, or publication fees.
